Hey [First Name],
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the different seasons we move through…not just in life, but in our creative work too.
Sometimes we’re in full swing, other times things slow down.
If you’ve been feeling like you’re not moving fast enough right now, I think this will help.
Let’s dive in!
Things Are Changing, Again
Spring has properly landed here in Spain.
The air’s warmer, the sun stays up longer, and there’s that typical energy shift that comes with the new season.
People start moving differently, dressing differently, and life starts to feel a little more open.
But not everyone’s feeling that momentum. And maybe that’s you right now.
Maybe, like me, you’re coming off the back of a busy stretch…wrapping projects, closing loops…and now facing a bit of a blank page.
Or you’re just getting started in your client shooting journey.
It’s not that you’re lost, but you’re definitely in between things (Fake Spring if you will).
This season doesn’t always look like progress from the outside. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t moving.
Sometimes motion looks different. Like rethinking. Reworking. Resetting.
And even if it feels slower, it doesn’t mean you’re behind. It just means something new is starting, whether you can see it yet or not.
Not All Growth Looks the Same
This week, I had two conversations that really stuck with me.
One was with a friend who’s been shooting weddings for well over a decade – she’s brilliant, well-known, the envy of many wedding photographers – and right now, she’s struggling to book work.
The other call was with a brand-photographer friend who’s so slammed with projects he can’t find time for a weekend off.
Two very talented, experienced professionals. Two completely different seasons of their lives.
It made me think—how often do we look at where someone else is and assume we’re doing something wrong if we’re not there too? (I do this way too often tbh)
But it’s rarely that simple.
You can be incredibly good at what you do and still have a quiet month… or six. Or a chaotic one. Or one where you have no idea what comes next.
It’s not a straight line. It’s seasons.
Seasons Serve a Purpose
The season I’m in right now doesn’t look like much from the outside.
I’m not launching anything big.
I’m not shooting every day.
But behind the scenes, I’m quietly reworking things—updating my gear, rebuilding my systems, revisiting what kind of work actually lights me up. And even revamping my beginner photography course.
There’s a part of me that used to panic during these slower periods.
Like if I wasn’t growing fast, I was falling behind.
But now I’m seeing it differently.
These quiet phases are where a lot of important stuff gets figured out. It’s where the next version of your work starts to take shape, even if no one else can see it yet (including yourself).
Not every season is meant to harvest. Some are for planting, watering and waiting.
You’re Not Behind
If your motivation’s been off lately, your inbox is quiet, or you’ve been posting less than usual, try not to beat yourself up over it. (I’m saying this as much to myself as to you.)
Maybe you’re just not in a NYC hustler-level output phase right now, and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean you’ve lost it. It doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
You might just be in a slower season by design. One that’s here to teach you something...
One that’s asking you to be a little more... Spanish with your pace.
And honestly, this is often the season where the real stuff starts to grow.
