Why YOU Matter More Than Your Photos

Beautiful photos are everywhere.

Scroll through Instagram, TikTok, or any photography blog, and you'll see countless stunning images.

But here’s the thing—people don’t stick around for just beautiful photos.

They stick around for you.

So let’s jump in!

Why Your Style Matters More Than Your Photos

A while ago, one of my favourite creators started shooting sports photography.

Now, I’ve never been into sports photography—like, not at all.

But suddenly, I was hooked.

It wasn’t because I cared about sports or the genre itself.

It was because he was shooting it.

His perspective, his way of storytelling, and his unique vibe made me care about something I’d never paid attention to before.

Maybe you’ve experienced this too.

You don’t just follow someone for their work—you follow them for their style.

And here’s the kicker: your style isn’t just about how you edit or compose your shots. It’s about your approach, your story, your opinions—it’s about you.

What This Means for Your Photography

Your style is what sets you apart.

It’s the why behind your photos, not just the what. And that’s why your style matters more than your photos ever will.

Because your style is what makes you unforgettable.

Think about the photographers you admire most.

Sure, their photos are great, but their voice is what keeps you coming back.

They bring something unique, whether it’s their sense of humour, their personal story, or their way of looking at the world

How to Bring More ‘You’ Into Your Photography

So how do you make your style shine?

How do you ensure that people care about your work because it’s you behind the lens?

Here are three ways to get started:

  1. Share Your Process People love a behind-the-scenes look. Talk about why you chose a certain location, what inspired a particular shot, or even the mistakes you made along the way. Sharing your process brings people closer to your work—and to you.
  2. Tell Stories with Your Photos Every photo has a story. Maybe it’s about the person you photographed, the journey it took to get the shot, or how it made you feel. Don’t just post a photo—share the story behind it.
  3. Embrace Your Opinions Your perspective is unique. Whether it’s how you feel about certain trends, why you shoot a particular way, or what inspires you, let people into your world. It’s your opinions and insights that make your work feel personal.

Your Style Is Your Superpower

The truth is, anyone can take a technically perfect photo. But no one can replicate you.

Your photography matters, but what matters more is how you bring yourself into the frame.

Your style—the way you see the world, your stories, your quirks, your voice—is what makes your work stand out in a sea of beautiful images.

So next time you share a photo, remember this: people stick around not just for what you create, but for who you are.

Keep showing up. Keep being you. Because that’s what makes your photography truly unforgettable.
